Can I randomly assign students to seats?

Yes. Random assign fills every available unlocked seat. Add Keep apart, Sit together, seat preference, or previous-neighbor rules first when the result needs more structure than a simple shuffle.

Can I import a class list from Excel or Google Sheets?

Yes. Copy a single name column from Excel or Google Sheets and paste it into the student field, or upload a CSV with one student name per row. Blank rows and duplicate names are cleaned before the list is added.

Can I keep two students apart or seat them together?

Yes. Add Keep apart or Sit together rules before generating. FunRandomizer tests multiple arrangements and keeps the result that satisfies the most active rules.

What happens if every seating rule cannot be satisfied?

FunRandomizer keeps the arrangement with the lowest rule-conflict score. The rule report shows how many rules were satisfied and identifies the remaining conflicts so you can adjust the chart manually.

How does FunRandomizer decide which students are neighbors?

The definition follows the selected layout. Rows use nearby grid positions, pairs use each partner, groups treat students in the same pod as neighbors, and discussion layouts use adjacent positions around the shape.

Can I make a printable seating chart for a substitute teacher?

Yes. Use Substitute view or export the Substitute pack. The output includes a clean room chart and student list without showing the private rules used to create it.

How many students and seats can I add?

The room can expand up to a 10 by 10 grid, or 100 positions. Zoom controls and Fit to screen make charts for 40 to 60 students easier to review and edit.

Are student names uploaded or stored online?

No. Student names, classes, seating rules, and room templates are processed and saved in this browser. CSV files are read on your device.
